1 Corinthians 15:50– Now this I say,
brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the Kingdom of God; neither doth
corruption inherit incorruption.
Matthew 16:17 – And Jesus answered
and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath
not revealed it unto thee, but my father which is in heaven.
In both scriptures, the distinction
is clear in what can only be done when we function (depend upon, make decisions
and conclusions, plan and execute) based on the human realities of the sensory-
seen- dimension. The scriptures use ‘Flesh and blood’ to capture this. Notice
in 1 Corinthians, the word ‘inherit
is used’ which implies to take over, posses and appropriate and moving from
induction to responsibilities. Also as Jesus spoke to Peter, He referred to the
insight and revelation, clarity and wisdom of the Spirit as a revelation that
our sense realm (education, training, socialization, education and exposure –
if applicable) cannot provide, in understanding the things of the Spirit or of
the unseen realities – which are more tangible than the limited version we get
from the physical world of what a person can see, feel, hear, think
scientifically and otherwise.
There has been a misinterpretation of
the assertion been made by Apostle Paul in the scripture above ‘….cannot
inherit the kingdom of God’. It definitely was not talking about the unsaved not
going to Heaven. He was saying that the natural senses can’t possess and use
the things of the Spirit. Don’t forget Jesus defined and located the Kingdom of
God and also gave an indicator of knowing when it is in operation. (To understand this further read Matthew
12:28 and Luke 10:9).
To put it in simpler terms, I will
explain using the concept of an inheritance. There are many things associated
with Inheritance. But mostly, it refers to transfer of ownership by law (or by
grace). I can preach months of this alone. The Scripture says we have three inheritances
as Christians. One I received when I accepted whom Jesus said He is, believed
what He came to do and confessed those with my mouth – this is the present and
future, seen and unseen eternal right to be a god (for we hail from God). Then
the other is to take over the world again having dominion, replenish the earth,
increase and bless creation amongst others (You
can find this in Psalms 115:16) and the third behind the last of them all –
the unveiling of our glory – true nature, that which we are already, inside (immortality
at His appearing and the sound of the trumpets).
We inherited the name of Jesus. So
also, the things of the Spirit are associated with and identified with a name.
This is so in our natural world, where people can identify you by and with your
name. Your family lineage and heritage can be known, just by the name you bear.
So this is what Apostle Paul is
referring to in that verse. If you operate in the realm of the senses, you will
not be able to enjoy the privilege associated with the name you have received
even though you answer the name. When you read the book of Acts 19:13 – 17,
you will see the story of the sons of Sceva. They were the children of a chief
priest who went to church (Synagogue); they were practitioners of the Abrahamic
covenant and were educated in and trained to cram the Torah. This had always been
the practice with the Jews (Cross reference Daniel 1:3 & 4 and 2 Kings
20:17 & 18). However, the scripture records that the sons of Sceva were
unable to possess and use the name of Jesus for the demon-possessed man beat
all seven of them to pulp.
So why do a lot of Christians
struggle under the elements of the world, under the genesis curse on the earth
(please note, man was not curse, but the earth. The reference to man, was the
result of the curse on the earth, he must then strife to make things works,
which is the same as Isaac said to his son, Esau). So here are some reasons,
why? Christian life is reduced to the psychology of personality types – likes
and dislikes, public image and self-centeredness; the power relationships that
shape trends and the limitation of traditions, the wave of individuality and
confusion of scientology amongst others.
This is why I always say; don’t go to
church just because it is Sunday, holiday, Easter, Christmas, New years eve or
only when in need. Go to church to be blessed of God as a result of fellowship,
to sing, to dance, to make a joyful noise, to be taught the scripture, to be
imparted with the gifts of the spirit, to receive more anointing and grace, to
enjoy the gathering of believers, to pray together, to share grace, to be
inspired, motivated and empowered – the list goes on and on. Go to achieve
When you deepen your spiritual
realities; The Holy Spirit will unveil hidden things (from the sense realm) to
you on any matter. It will come as an idea or a thought, or as intuition,
impression as well as it can come by spiritual ways.
Take this with you; if you think there
is anything you are facing that is too big or greater than you can handle, God
can take care of it as long as you train yourself to respond always to the
inspiration of the Holy Spirit, He will tell you what to do.
